Cap'n Merritt's Backstory

Cap'n Merritt starts the comic by telling us about how much of an awesome pirate he is. But as a consequence of being an awesome pirate, he spends a lot of time in the sun. So he sets off on an adventure to get a hat, because buying things at the store is for losers.

After some unsuccessful attempts at finding a good hat, his first mate, Pierrick Avalet, suggests going to the Isle of Hatopia. But the Isle of Hatopia is known to be dangerous, as it is guarded by the great kraken of Hatopia. So Merritt and his crew are forced to do battle with the monster, eventually prevailing and being gifted with a hat from the mermaids of Hatopia.

Then, since there's still another week left of Backstory Month, A.G. suggests he tell the story of how he met his wife Ginette. So he does: sometimes he came home from pirating tired, so he would sit and relax on a bench at the nearby park. It was there he met Ginette Warner, who said he looked lonely sitting by himself and that she thought she'd keep him company. Before long, it became a regular meeting place, they fell in love, got married, and had a son named Danny. The end!
